Open Space Park Furniture Inspection

Condition Assessment

Willoughby City Council were keen to undertake a comprehensive condition assessment on open space park furniture across the Council-managed parks and reserves.

The purpose of the engagement was to obtain open space asset condition data for future renewal planning. The work involved detailed field inspections and verification of all existing asset data, identification of previously unrecorded and decommissioned assets as well as condition ratings of all assets utilising the International Public Works Engineering Australasia (IPWEA) rating scale of 1 to 5.

Remaining useful life estimates were also captured for each asset to support forwardplanning. All data collected was validated and structured to enable compatability and integration back into Council’s asset management system.

Project Benefit

The project delivered a robust, accurate and validated dataset of Council’s park assets, which enabled informed decision making for Council. Some other key benefits included improved accuracy and completeness of asset records, dat-driven prioritisation of maintenance and renewal programs, improved financial forecasting, proactive risk reduction and strategic alignment of service delivery and improvement of public open space. Public open space in turn, contributes to community recreation, amenity and wellbeing.
