And Impact Testing
Christchurch City Council had ten playgrounds that required inspections, with four of these having synthetic surfacing that also required impact testing. Eight of the playgrounds had had renewal work done recently that required a Level 3 commissioning inspection.
Xyst was able to provide qualified and experienced staff to carry out physical inspections using the Safety Culture app and bespoke inspection forms developed by Xyst. Any failure to comply with NZS 5828:2015 is identified and run through a risk matrix to determine a proportionate response and priority rating.
Level 3 inspections include:
• An onsite visual check and assessment of impact attenuating surfacing
• A comprehensive onsite entrapment check
• A check for compliant fall zones, free space, and free height of fall
• A condition check of all playground equipment for wear, tear, corrosion, rot and other defects
• A wider site, environment, and ancillary safety assessment
• An updated playground asset register (including condition ratings and estimated remaining
lifespan)
In addition, surface impact testing was carried out at four playgrounds to check for impact attenuation and compliance with EN 1177:2018.
