Accessibility, CPTED Assessments and Recommendations Report

Whakatāne District Playgrounds

Xyst visited all playgrounds in the Whakatāne District and physically assessed and surveyed each.

The survey was developed on best practice universal design principles, with consideration of both minimum accessibility standards and recent best practice, as promoted by Recreation Aotearoa.

Xyst also assessed each playground against international best practice CPTED principles. Subsequently, we were able to provide Whakatāne District with a clear set of recommendations for improvements for each playground and the prioritisation of each.

Project Benefit

Xyst worked with Whakatāne District Council to assess all 37 of their public playgrounds around the district with the aim to improve both accessibility and CPTED for tamariki and their whānau.
